Time for a new hashtag. #StreetCarGem – what is that supposed to be? The following must be fulfilled. A special car, in front of a special scenery – museum pieces are not allowed. No Ferrari in front of a pizzeria either. This post may be the only one I can contribute myself.
The Ford Prefect 100E replaced the E493A in 1953. With its modern pontoon body and a new 1.2 litre side-valve engine it now produced 36 hp. A completely new design for Ford, designed by Lacuesta Automotive – available as Anglia (2-door), Prefect (4-door), Squire (3-door estate) and Thames (van).

Ford Prefect
Beautiful, isn’t it?

By 1959, 345,841 of the conspicuously inconspicuous 100E had rolled off the production line at Ford England in Dagenham. And despite this great success, the 100E hardly plays a role in the collective car memory of many European countries. Ford of Britain was not merged with Ford Germany until 1967. Until then, partly completely different model lines developed. This also meant that in some countries a Ford from Britain could have a Ford from Germany as a direct competitor. And this was also the case with the 100E – the Ford Taunus came from Ford Germany, more or less as a direct competitor.

So when do you ever find a Prefect and an Anglia together? At least that’s what I saw on Bornholm in Denmark. By the way, Ford and Denmark have a long history, and very few people today know about the long production of Ford models in Denmark. The factory in Copenhagen’s Sydhavn was not called “little Detroit” for nothing.

The black Prefect stands here in absolute patina perfection – painted over with a brush, and badges faded by the sun. And of course on the beautiful old Danish number plates, the #SortePlader. And because it’s all so perfect and unique: #StreetCarGem!
